DryTown to Unveil New Water Feature in 2010

Palmdale --  The City of Palmdale’s DryTown Water Park will unveil a new water feature in the Little Miner’s Camp when it reopens on Memorial Day weekend for the 2010 season.

The new “splashpad” will feature a 19 foot high large super soaker with a “tipping” bucket, two spray cannons and three water rings soaking kids as they walk through.

The Palmdale City Council voted at its March 3 meeting to appropriate $125,000 from Park Development Fund for the new feature. MICON Construction, Inc. will perform the installation.

“ We are eager to add to the excitement of DryTown this season and expect these new spray features to be a big hit with the younger kids and parents too!” said Palmdale’s Director of Parks and Recreation Russ Bird.  The splashpad will be installed by tapping into existing Little Miner’s Camp water pumping and filtration systems, resulting in a significant reduction in the cost of construction.

Entering its fifth year of operation, DryTown is a six-acre Old West mining town-themed aquatic park featuring a large water playground for children, a waterslide tower with three waterslides, and a 925- foot lazy river. The park also features a food and beverage concession hosted by Backyard Grille, a covered picnic area and a large grassy area for group activities.  The Little Miner’s Camp is a 6,000 square-foot aquatic play area for children ages 3 to 8 within the waterpark.

“For 2010, we’re offering a pre-season discount on season passes that provides savings from $10 to $40 for passes purchased now through March 31," said DryTown Water Park Manager Eric Dombrowski.  “With each season pass sold by March 31, the purchaser will receive a free single-day admission ticket, valued up to $16.

DryTown Water Park is located at 3850-B East Avenue S in Palmdale.
